Steel-Cord vs Cotton Conveyor Belt
The reinforcement type determines how much load and tension the belt can handle over a given conveying distance — heavier-duty operations generally need steel-cord reinforcement.
Steel-Cord Reinforced Belting
Steel cords embedded in the belt carcass for high tensile strength, used in heavy-duty, long-distance and high-tonnage conveying such as bulk material handling and mining.
Cotton-Reinforced Belting
A lighter-duty reinforcement used for general-purpose, shorter-distance conveying where the tensile demands of steel-cord belting aren't needed.

When do I need steel-cord conveyor belting instead of cotton-reinforced?
Steel-cord belting is needed where the conveying distance, load or tension exceeds what cotton-ply reinforcement can reliably handle — typical in bulk material handling and mining. For shorter, lighter-duty conveying, cotton-reinforced belting is usually sufficient and more cost-effective.
